By Mundhra Marketing | Stainless Steel & Industrial Fastener Supplier, Gurugram
If you work in construction, fabrication, or any kind of machinery manufacturing, you already know that not all nuts and bolts are the same. Pick the wrong one and you're looking at loose joints, corrosion problems, or worse โ equipment failure.
At Mundhra Marketing, we've been supplying stainless steel and high tensile fasteners across Gurugram, Delhi NCR and Haryana since 2013, and honestly, one question we get asked almost every week is: "Which nut or bolt should I use for this job?"
So we thought we'd put together a straightforward guide covering the common types of industrial nuts and bolts, what they're used for, and where they fit best. No jargon overload, just the practical stuff.
These are the ones everyone pictures when they hear "bolt." Six-sided head, easy to grip with a wrench or spanner, used pretty much everywhere โ structural steel work, machinery frames, piping. If you're looking for a hex bolt supplier in Gurgaon, this is usually the first item on any order sheet because it's the most versatile fastener out there.
Instead of a hex head, they have a hexagonal socket built into the top, which means you need an Allen key to tighten or loosen them. They sit flush or recessed, which makes them great for machinery, automotive parts, and places where a protruding bolt head would get in the way.
CSK bolts have a flat, conical head that sits completely flush with the surface once tightened. Furniture, panels, and any application where you want a smooth finish without a bolt head sticking out โ that's where CSK bolts come in.
When strength really matters โ think heavy machinery, structural steel, oil & gas installations โ high tensile bolts are the go-to choice. They're graded (8.8, 10.9, 12.9 and so on) based on how much load and stress they can handle. A lot of our clients in the EPC and infrastructure sector specifically ask for high tensile fasteners because ordinary grade bolts simply won't survive the load in these projects.
Basically a long rod threaded along its entire length, cut to whatever length the job needs. Used with nuts on both ends, threaded rods are common in anchoring, suspension systems, and connecting structural elements. As a threaded rod supplier, we keep a wide range of diameters and lengths in stock since project requirements change so often.
The standard nut, six-sided, pairs with hex bolts and works with almost any general fastening application. Simple, reliable, does the job.
These come with a built-in flange (a wider base) that acts like a washer, spreading the load over a bigger surface area. This means better grip and less chance of the nut loosening under vibration โ useful in automotive and machinery applications.
Dome nuts have a rounded cap on top that covers the exposed end of the bolt. They're used where safety and appearance both matter โ the covered top prevents injury from sharp bolt threads and also protects the thread from corrosion and dust.
If vibration is a concern, a regular nut can work its way loose over time. Lock nuts (especially nyloc nuts, which have a nylon insert) resist this by creating extra friction on the threads. Common in automotive assemblies and machines with constant movement or vibration.
Designed for quick, tool-free tightening and loosening by hand. Not for heavy-duty structural work, but handy for light fastening jobs that need frequent adjustment.
Nuts and bolts rarely work alone. Washers โ flat, spring, or SS washers โ sit between the nut/bolt and the surface to distribute load, prevent surface damage, and stop nuts from loosening under vibration. It's a small part that often gets overlooked, but skipping it can shorten the life of the whole joint.
This depends entirely on the application. If corrosion resistance is the priority โ outdoor installations, marine environments, food processing plants โ stainless steel fasteners are the better choice. If it's about raw strength and load-bearing capacity โ structural steel, heavy machinery, construction โ high tensile fasteners make more sense. Sometimes projects need both, depending on which part of the structure you're looking at.
